TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE REPORT

FOR THE SANTA BARBARA COUNTY TAXPAYERS ASSOCIATION

BICYCLE USE AS ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION

The following report is the basis of the official position taken by the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association.

Position Statement

With 25 years of planning and implementation in the county, all objective measures show a failure of bicycle use as a commuting option. The concept of people being willing to use bicycles as daily alternative transportation has failed to materialize. The millions of dollars spent and planned to continue this misperception is a fraud upon the taxpayers of this county and the nation in general. Knowing the above the Santa Barbara County Taxpayer Association is against any further expenditure of resources on bicycle paths as a reasonable alternative form of commuting traffic.
